UGANDA WILDLIFE GUIDE

A list of Uganda wildlife animals classified by family, size and eating habits. Uganda wildlife can be sub divided into Carnivores, Primates, Herbivores, Birds (Beginner's and Twitcher's bird lists) and Reptiles .

Primates- Apes & Monkeys

Apes- Gorillas (Lowland and Mountain gorillas) & the common Chimpanzees

Monkeys - Baboons, Patas monkey, Blue monkey, Red tailed monkey, Black and white colobus monkey, Vervet monkey, De Brazza's monkey, Grey cheeked mangabey, Red colobus monkey,

Others- Bushbabies and Pottos are both nocturnal primates

Gorillas

Carnivores

Fellines - Lions(including tree climbing lions), Leopards, Cheetahs,

Smaller cats- Caracal, African wildcat,

Canids- Jackals( Black backed jackal and golden jackal), Bat-eared fox, African hunting dog,

Others- Spotted hyena, African civet, Otters, Ratel, Genets, Mongooses,

Antelopes

Large antelope - Common eland, Roan antelope, Greater kudu, Hartebeest, Defassa waterbuck,

Medium size antelope - Uganda kob( national antelope), Bushbuck, Sitatunga, Lesser kudu, Grant's gazelle, Impala, Reedbuck,

Small antelope - Duikers (Grey duiker, forest duiker, Harvey' red duiker, Blue duiker, Black fronted duiker,Weyn's dukier, Peter's dukier), Bates pygmy antelope, Oribi, Klipspringer.

Kob

Herbivores-

African elephant ( Savanna elephant and forest elephant)

Rhinoceros, African buffalo, Hippopotamus, Burchell's zebra

Swine- Warthogs, Bush pig, Giant forest hog

Reptiles-

Nile crocodile, Snakes ( Rock python, puff adder, Gabon viper, Mambas, Boomslang), Lizzards (Giant monitor lizzards, water lizzards, savanna lizzards, agma), Tortoises and Terrapins
