Gorilla Tracking rules and Regulations

September 28, 2010 By: admin Category: Safari Articles

The mountain gorillas are among the most endangered apes in this world and are unique with half the the population residing in south western Uganda in Bwindi Forest which was turned into a national park where tourists and travelers can track the famous Gorillas and the remaining population is located in the Virunga Volcanoe in Rwanda. The Virunga Volcanoe range is shared by three Gorilla national parks namely Mgahinga Gorilla park in Uganda,Volcanoes National park in Rwanda and Virunga nationalGorilla Tracking rules and Regulations park in Congo.Gorilla Tracking rules

The mountain gorillas face many threats and the most notable is the possibility of disease transmission from humans and also poachers in some Gorilla parks who hunt down mostly the low land Gorillas for meat and skins and hides and that’s why Uganda tourist and travel guide has decided to lecture tourists and travelers wishing to track the mounatin gorillas about Gorilla tracking rules and regulations:

On the way to the Gorillas – Only a group of 8-10 tourists are allowed to visit a gorilla group per day,Do not leave rubbish in the Gorilla parks and please always try to keep your voices low

When with the Gorillas – Keep a minimum of 7 meters to protect the Gorilas from risks of disease transmission and do not drink or eat while near the Gorillas and in case of a gorilla charge, crouch down, dont look in the eyes of the gorilla until they have gone
