Intelligent Ugandan Chimpanzee discovered

March 28, 2012 By: admin Category: Safari Articles, Uganda safari news, Uganda Tourism News

A group of German scientists from  the Max Planck Institute of German have hailed an intelligent and very funny Ugandan chimpanzee called Natasha who they recently encountered in the Ngamba Island Chimp Sanctuary. Natasha has the ability to communicate with people and understands whatever they do or want to communicate.

The 22 year old orphaned Ugandan chimp who was rescued from captivity at a tender age (two years) is very playful and entertaining to watch for example she can demand for extra food by clapping her hands in order to get noticed by her caretakers and she also likes to attract the attention of visitors by clapping and doing all sorts of gestures in order for them to throw some food her way.

The Sanctuary’s operations director, Dr Joshua R says that Natasha is definitely among the most intelligent Chimpanzees  in Africa and although many other intelligent chimps were left out during the research, He believes that Natasha deserves all the credit she gets because other clever chimps like Pasa refused to be examined by the German scientists. Although Natasha was born in the wild, Dr Rukundo believes that Natasha has unique social skills that make her stand out from all the other chimpanzees in the sanctuary.
